Whenever I’m craving a green smoothie, I know my body is desperately needing a break from all the carbs and other crap I eat on a daily basis.
Here’s a green smoothie that I like to make at home. 💚 Even though it comes out VERY green, it actually tastes great. Think zesty, refreshing, no bitterness and also a little more filling that a normal juice.
Check out my Reel or TikTok for a quick ASMR recap on how I made my green smoothie. It’s honestly just washing, prepping and cutting up the fruit and veggies!
Ingredients
Here’s what I used that day to make enough green smoothies for 2-3 people:
- 3 x green appples
- 3 x kiwi fruits
- Cucumber (amount is up to you – I like the fresh taste)
- 1 x lemon
- Baby spinach leaves
- A few mint leaves
- Coconut water (or water)
Sometimes I also add:
- 1 x frozen banana (if you use this, you can use 2 x apples instead)
- 1 small piece of ginger (without the banana)
Again, it’s totally up to you!
There’s not a lot involved in making a smoothie – I pretty much throw everything into my Tefal blender and it does the job for me. Instead of dropping instructions, I’ll just add some notes for you below.
Smoothie tips
You can keep most of your fruit & veg skin on. Yep, including your kiwis! I peeled some of my apples and cucumber, because I’m not bougie and don’t buy organic and I want to avoid things like wax. I peeled my kiwi fruit because I personally don’t like the furry texture of the skin.
Don’t pour too much coconut water (or water) before blending. Depending on how thick or runny you’d like your smoothie, it’s better to pour your coconut water in gradually as you’re blending the smoothie. I guess that’s common sense 😅 but even I sometimes forget these things!
Stuff spinach leaves in between layers. I find that it’s easier to blend everything smoothly if I stuff a bit of my spinach leaves at the bottom, and then throughout the different layers of apple and cucumber. That way there aren’t any unblended bits.
I’m currently posting this blog from Bali and I think I’ve had about 25 smoothies so far! 😱🌴 My favourite is the pink dragonfruit here. I’ll make some when I get home…
